What is the Midwifery Model of Care?

This model views childbirth as a natural, physiological process, emphasizing minimal intervention, personalized care, and a high degree of patient involvement. We believe and practice "informed choice" meaning we will give you as much information and direct you to where you can research more about a particular test/screening/etc and then you can make an informed choice on what is right for you and your family.

Pain management options vary, but are considered "Natural", they include water births, massage, movement and occasionally sterile water injections. We greatly encourage our families to prepare for childbirth through local classes, online and/or hiring a doula.

What Should You Expect from a Birth Center?

Expect a warm, relaxed atmosphere, a return home shortly after birth, home visits for the first week, breastfeedng help and a care team committed to you each step of the way.   While birth centers do not use pain management drugs like an epidural, we do carry multiple types of medicines if needed for decreasing bleeding postpartum.

Emergency Preparedness and Options for Pain Management?

Birth centers are prepared for routine deliveries and emergencies, with procedures in place for hospital transfer if necessary. Should unforeseen complications occur we are a two minute ride to the hospital.  Occasionally babies take longer than one hopes to come out and we support families in making a decision to transfer for pain relief in desired.
