What IS a Midwife anyway?

I don't know if there is as much confusion surrounding other professions as I hear about with Midwifery. Are we Doula's? OB's? Hippies who chant? Witches? The truth is we are none of those things (well some might claim to be a couple of those) :).

Midwives specialize in Normal Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum. We are trained to manage Obstetrical complications that can arise during one's pregnancy, birth or postpartum period. We also are well trained in NRP for resuscitation of babies.

Midwives offer support to families during their journey into parenthood whether that be with their first or tenth baby. We encourage lifestyle habits for healthy pregnancy outcomes. We firmly believe in informed choices which means we present you with information be it on a test, a medicine, etc and you make the informed choice for you and your family. Our cesarean rate is low (usually less than 7%) because we believe in the family feeling relaxed in their environment, we believe in moving the body to help aid the baby through the canal and above all we practice patience! Sometimes those babies have their own time frame for coming out and as long as everyone is safe and healthy, we are patient.

Midwife literally means "with woman", and that is what we will be... WITH you each step of the way.
